Why consume fresh and dried seafood?
According to Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, World Health Organization (2010), seafood consumption is deemed to be essential for health. Seafood, like fish, shellfish and seaweed, is an excellent source of high quality protein, polyunsaturated fats, minerals and vitamins. These nutrients are essential for proper development, maintenance and enhancement of body functions. These marine creatures, which are constantly exposed to a complex living environment, have evolved to produce different kinds of bioactive chemicals. The chemicals could have medicinal properties and offer multiple health benefits. In recent years, it has been found out that some seafood products have anticancer properties (1). Several epidemiological studies, such as (2), have concluded that the consumption of seafood can prevent cardiovascular diseases.
